Cape Town is a true fan favorite, with its exciting Mediterranean vibe, amazing culinary scene, beautiful Cape Dutch architecture, thriving art community, and successful sports teams – all set to the backdrop of iconic Table Mountain and the turbulent waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It is no wonder it is called The Mother City. This vibrant, trendy city has broad appeal. Local attractions include Table Mountain, Robben Island, the V&A Waterfront, Bo-Kaap, boutique shops, numerous museums, wineries, and world famous restaurants. For those venturing beyond the city, the Cape Winelands and Cape Peninsula are a day trip away.
Cape Town’s rich cultural heritage dates back more than 300 years and its diversity is evident in the city’s architecture, art, and food. It is the second most populous city in South Africa and sits at the southwest tip of Africa
A stone’s throw from the alluring V&A Waterfront, located alongside the Time Ball Tower, Dock House Boutique Hotel offers the ideal balance between convenience and complete privacy. The hotel’s charming exterior gives way to an opulent world beyond its front door. Chandeliers and ornate ceiling cornices, among other fine touches, create a sense of Victorian charm and allude to the property’s historical roots, originally the Harbour Master’s private residence in the 1800’s.
The Luxury Room has an average size of 45 m2 per room with four total rooms available; rooms two and three are interleading. Three of the upstairs Luxury Rooms have balconies with views of the bustling harbour at the V&A Waterfront, while the two ground-floor rooms open onto a verandah overlooking the groomed garden and swimming pool. There is a king size bed and an en-suite designer bathroom. Amenities include air conditioning, television with satellite channels, a mini bar, a Nespresso machine, a hair dryer, bathrobes and slippers, and an in-room electronic safe.
Cape Town is consistently ranked among the Top 10 cities in the world to visit by the likes of Condé Nast Traveler and Travel+Leisure magazine. The ‘Mother City’, as it is affectionately known, is a colorful and vibrant city surrounded by dramatic mountains and sandy beaches. The magic of Cape Town lies in the collision of natural wonder, diverse cultures, art, design and a thriving food and wine scene.
Kick off your morning with an energizing hike up Lion’s Head, a favorite among locals and visitors alike. This trail provides sweeping panoramic views across Cape Town, Table Mountain, and the Atlantic Seaboard. While the hike is moderately challenging, it’s accessible to hikers of all fitness levels and usually takes between 1.5 to 2 hours. Reaching the summit at sunrise offers a spectacular start to your day
Next, make your way to the renowned Table Mountain. Take the cable car to the top to witness the stunning vistas over Cape Town and beyond.
Pause for a coffee at Truth Coffee, celebrated for its unique steampunk décor and recognized as one of the world’s top coffee shops. Savor a specialty roast and perhaps a snack in this distinctive setting.
Bo-Kaap Tour: Explore the vibrant Bo-Kaap area, known for its brightly colored homes and historic cobblestone streets. Dive into the rich Cape Malay culture and treat yourself to some local delicacies.
Lunch and City Landmarks and Promenade Stroll: Spend the afternoon visiting important landmarks, or stroll through the bustling V&A Waterfront. Finish your day with a relaxing walk along the Sea Point Promenade.
Start with the drive along the Atlantic Seaboard through the opulent suburbs of Bantry Bay, Clifton, and Camps Bay through Hout Bay towards Chapman’s Peak Drive. One of the most spectacular marine drives in the world and affectionately known by the locals as ‘Chappies’, it is a must for anyone passionate about natural scenery. The twists and curves in the road seem endless and it is a photographer’s dream and a paradise for sightseers.
Visit the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. At the tip of the Cape Peninsula and 60 km south-west of Cape Town, the reserve falls within the Table Mountain National Park, a declared Natural World Heritage Site. Encompassing 7750 hectares of varied flora and fauna it abounds with buck, baboons and Cape Mountain Zebra, as well as over 250 species of birds. Ascend to the lighthouse, and pause at the southwestern tip of the African continent.
Continue to Boulders Beach to meet the African penguins. The story of the African penguins is one of the most remarkable urban colonization. The penguin colony in Simonstown started in 1983 when a pair was spotted on Foxy Beach at Boulders. The birds arrived at False Bay from Dyer Island. At the time, False Bay was closed to commercial fishing and the newcomers enjoyed abundant food and unlimited breeding sites, with the African penguin population at Boulders soaring. Today they continue to delight, and it’s a well-known fact that time in the company of these adorable birds is guaranteed to make you smile.
Enjoy lunch at Foodbarn and afterward, enjoy some time walking around the charming Kalk Bay – a popular seaside village known for great shopping and its working harbour with rather obnoxious resident seals. The village is home to a theatre, art galleries, an independent bookshop, a renowned bakery, antique shops and so much more. End the day with a stop at Muizenberg beach, the Surfer’s Corner, where the photogenic and colourful washhouses line the beach.
The coastal stretch between Muizenberg and St. James railway station was once known as Cape Town’s Golden Mile, and today still makes for a wonderful area to explore on foot. Historic buildings, and homes clinging to the mountainside, the railway line that hugs the shoreline and the endless coffee shops and stores, tidal pools and beaches will make you want to linger.
The Linyanti/Selinda/Kwando system is an area of over 2,600 sq km (1,000 sq mi) that juts out into the Chobe National Park to the eastern side, with the Okavango to the south. This is real African big game country, and during the dry season the permanent waters of both the Kwando and Linyanti Rivers serve as important migration points for wildlife from much of northern Botswana, including large herds of buffalo and elephant, wildebeest and zebra. The extensive Kwando, Selinda, and Linyanti concessions offer superb wildlife viewing and terrain to rival the physical beauty of the Okavango.
The swamps that fan out from the rivers carry the same magnificent natural history as the Okavango: picturesque channels, lagoons, papyrus stands and reedbeds. Riparian forest lines the waterways, giving rise to magnificent, towering trees. Virtually all naturally occurring antelope and predators can be seen in these concessions, depending, of course, on the season, and food and water availability. Over the years African hunting dogs have frequently denned in these concessions and lion prides have taken to predating on large herbivores that concentrate here.
Even amongst the most discerning of travellers, the Linyanti Channel is fast becoming Botswana’s most sought-after wildlife haven. Nestled between the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park, Linyanti is a rich yet diverse ecosystem that is fed by a permanent river flow. At the core of this wildlife haven is Linyanti Ebony, this intimate camp is made up of just four tents making it perfect for a more private and family oriented safari lodge experience. A unique place where you can embrace the “digital detox” and slip into the rhythm of an authentic and game-filled safari experience.
Built on raised decking overlooking the Linyanti Marsh, Linyanti Ebony is an intimate tented camp granting panoramic views of its exquisite natural setting. The camp’s mindful design offers an authentic, eco-conscious base from which to explore this significant wilderness. The main area encompasses an expansive lounge and dining area, sparkling plunge pool, cosy fire circle and boma; the perfect place to strengthen family ties on your Chobe safari.
Linyanti Ebony is home to some fantastic wildlife including a healthy population of predators such as lion, wild dog and several more elusive species delighting our guests year-round. Your memorable safari is characteriszd by serene, sweeping scenes await and in evening time, guests are treated to a concert of honking hippos and chirruping frogs, the perfect backing track to an al-fresco meal served beneath a star-studded night sky
As part of the African Bush Camps Foundation’s community empowerment and education projects, you’ll also have the chance to visit the nearby Kachikau Primary School Disability Unit and the Vuche Vuche Basket Weaving Project and witness the positive impact of purpose-led travel firsthand.
The luxury tents have comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets, fixed showers and hot water.
Formerly known as NG18, Khwai Private Reserve is 200,000 hectares of pristine wilderness. That’s three times the size of South Africa’s Sabi Sands – and 300 times more private! The reserve itself is within Botswana’s most talked about region, the Okavango Delta. It actually sits just to the north east of the Delta, adjacent to Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park, and the landscape is one of the most diverse. Think mopane clusters jostling for space with riverine forest, acacia woodland, seasonal waterholes and winding channels leading from the mighty Khwai River. The Khwai Private Reserve is positively bursting with game, and it’s just as varied as the habitats you’re driving through.
Wildlife moves freely from the neighbouring Moremi Game Reserve and you’ll see buffalo, zebra, reedbuck, red lechwe, sable and roan antelope, and waterbuck dotted over the landscape. Predators are plentiful and lion and leopard hide in the mopane bush, whilst cheetah and wild dog frequently cross the open plains. And don’t forget the elephant – there’s an extraordinary number of the grey pachyderms in the park and the sightings are top-notch.
The varied habitats of Khwai support an equally impressive cast of animals and all the stars of the wildlife show are present – as well as a few extra. The wetlands and rivers host impressive quantities of hippos and crocodiles, whilst on dry land, big cats lurk along treelines and sometimes right through camp. Sable, roan, impala, and kudu dot the
grasslands, alongside giraffe and zebra, an abundance of elephant and buffalo, and of course, the occasional jackal.
The birdlife is fantastic and guests can expect everything from giant eagle owls to lilac-breasted rollers. Khwai also has an excellent reputation for the rarer species of the African savannah including wild dogs, serval cats, honey badgers, and the elusive pangolin. Binos at the ready!
The communal areas are designed around the spectacular vistas. Watch the happenings at the lagoon from the bar, G&T in hand, from the outdoor fire pit, or from a squashy sofa in the lounge. At night, dinner is served either in the indoor dining area, or alfresco on the deck, accompanied by twinkling stars and the rumblings and grumblings of the wildlife. There’s a swimming pool and sun deck, both unique spots from which to watch the hippo pods emerge from the lagoon, or simply for some chill-out time in the heat of the day
There’s no denying that Sable is spacious, sophisticated and really quite stylish. Each canvas-walled suite is a huge 55 square metres, and comes complete with mini-indoor seating area, writing desk, double bed, and some seriously Afrochic décor. Slide open the screen doors at the front for uninterrupted views of the lagoon, or take a seat on theveranda for a closer inspection. At the back, you’ll find two basins, and indoor shower and a flush loo. And if you fancy washing off the dust from the day in the great outdoors, no problem – there’s an outdoor shower with a view too.
Looking for a truly unique way to spend time in the bush? Then look no further than our fabulous Skybeds, located deep within the Khwai Private Reserve. As the name suggests, this is no ordinary safari camp. Each “room” is actually a double-story raised platform, overlooking the wildlife-spotted plains of Khwai. Charmingly rustic yet perfectly stylish, you’ll find a bathroom with flushing loo on the first floor, a dressing area, and the ultimate cherry on the top floor, an enormous double bed, draped in white linens and a feather duvet and completely open to the stars.
With such spectacular skies overhead, you could be forgiven for forgetting about what’s happening down below. But keep one eye on the ground, as the platforms overlook a busy waterhole. In one night we’ve seen wild dog, lion, elephant and hyena – and that’s just the beginning. So, whilst we can’t guarantee you’ll get much sleep, we can guarantee one of the wildest and most wonderful safari experiences you’ll ever have.
Three double-story platforms overlook a waterhole. The first floor has a bathroom with shower and flushing loo, plus a dome tent with two single beds for inclement weather. The top floor has a comfy double bed, draped in a mosquito net and completely open to the stars!
The Okavango Delta is the largest intact inland delta in the world, and is exceptionally rich in wildlife. Situated deep within the Kalahari Basin, the Delta is characterized by meandering deep water channels lined with papyrus reeds that open up into larger lagoons and islands; these in turn give way to seasonal floodplains and eventually large tracts of dry land where animals congregate. Fed by the Okavango River and rains from the highlands of Angola, the Delta can vary in size from 15,000 sq km (5,800 sq mi) during drier periods to a staggering 22,000 sq kms (8,500 sq mi) during wetter periods.
The game viewing depends on season, floodwaters and food availability but it is one of the most sought after wilderness destinations in the world. In addition to big game viewing, visitors come to experience the supreme tranquility and serenity of an untouched delta, and scenes of extraordinary natural beauty. It consistently produces very good predator action with considerable herds of ungulates and elephants, as well as a reintroduced (predominantly white) rhino population.
